Es war schon weit nach Mit­ter­nacht, der U‑Bahnsteig still und ver­las­sen. Züge glit­ten her­ein, öff­ne­ten und schlos­sen  die Tü­ren, heul­ten wie­der in die Dun­kel­heit da­von. Die Frau aber blieb re­gungs­los ste­hen.

It was well past mid­night, the sub­way plat­form quiet and de­ser­ted. Trains gli­ded in, ope­ned and clo­sed their doors, how­led back into the dark­ness. The wo­man, ho­we­ver, stood mo­ti­on­less.
